Windows Vista Magazine 1.0 Gadget

Posted in Development, Gadget Stuff

In addition to our other projects, we’ve been working with Windows Vista: The Official Magazine to bring you a brand new news reader / site search gadget for the sidebar. Lots of options, very easy to use, and a cool theme just like the magazine, this is a must have for anyone looking for daily tips, tricks, and news about the Vista operating system.

As always, if you run into any issues, let us know and we’ll do our best to troubleshoot and alleviate the problem.

Feedback is graciously accepted. Thanks. :)

  1. Henry Kasujja Says:

The Windows Vista Magazine 1.0 Gadget is a good shortcut towards what one needs to know about Vista and its applications. Thanks

  2. Jay Kei. Says:

When clicking on the stories within the gadget, after about the third or fourth click, the gadget disappears, and you have to go back to the gadgets add button and re-drag the gadget back on to the XML Side Bar. Very annoying. Especially when the feeds do not load very quickly.

  3. The Staff Says:

Jay Kei, that seems very odd. The overall news feed seems to load pretty quickly right now, is this an issue that gets better or worse depending on a time of the day or depending on how bad Windows vista Magazie’s servers are hit?

  4. Kelly E Says:

I have the same problem as Jay. The pop out window works OK but when I click to see a full story the gadget crashes. This is a bad error that should be fixed.

  5. The Staff Says:

Kelly, for the moment, go into the settings panel and skip the description. It’s a pain, but it will alleviate the issue somewhat until we can figure out a fix.

The thing that’s causing this is the auto-focus when the flyout loads. Yes, this is partially our fault for putting it in there and fixing a problem some people had with the flyout requiring a few additional clicks to use, but it seems to have sprung this gadget closing problem up, which oddly enough doesn’t happen to everyone.

Odds are that we’ll be removing the command with the next update to this and other gadgets as this problem is worse than the problem the comand is fixing.
