When Google Desktop 5.8 came out this past week, some of the new ways that it parses code broke our XM gadget on the sidebar. Since then, we’ve released a patch, but we have a second patch to release today. The current version is now 1.3. If you haven’t gone and re-downloaded it, please do:
Download XM Online Radio 1.3 for Google Sidebar
This patch fixes problems with favorites and the channel selection should be working now. Problems such as no sound and no initial channels have been reported, but not en masse and we haven’t been able to replicate the issues in house as of yet.
If you run into any issues with this version of the gadget, please document them below with as much detail as possible so that we can recreate the problem and hopefully be able to include fixes in upcoming versions.
Thanks.

The tab function does not seem to work when logging in. I enter my XM username and try to tab to the password field and all it does is tab over in the username field like I’m typing in a document.
Also, a nice feature inhancement would be a ‘Log Off’ option or proxy server setting. I use this in a corporate environment and due to proxy server settings, when I first log on to the computer the gadget acts as if I’m logged in but won’t work. By default, our systems come up with a proxy server set. The only way to get around this (after I turn the proxy server setting off in IE) is to ‘Rest Everything’ which blows out the favorites list. Not a big deal but kind of annoying.
Heath, do you have the latest version of Google Desktop? 5.8 added in auto-field tabbing, so we had to remove the programatic tabbing in the gadget.
Logging off can be done by clicking the XM logo on top of the gadget and selecting the log off option on the bottom of the links menu. We haven’t done a lot with proxy internet settings, not sure if we can affect settings like that via the gadget. We’ll take a look though and see if that’s possible.
As of yesterday my XM gadget will not open. I downloaded the patch but when I try and open the patch it tells me windows cannot open this file. I downloaded some type of .gg extension reader but it still won’t open. I am having withdrawal, I love this gadget so much it is much more convenient then going to the XM site.
Help please
Michele
when I try to add this gadget it tells me an earlier version was installed. It then tells me to uninstall that version. but I can’t figure out how. I really miss the ability to listen to my XM radio using the gadget. Please help.
Since I’d contacted you before about the gadget not working shortly after the most recent update of Google Desktop, thought I’d drop a note to say, after the 9/26 gadget release, it’s working for me now! Thanks.
How do you uninstall the XM gadget. the system is telling me I have to uninstall the old version before installing the new version. Please help…
Michele, Double check that .gg is associated with the Google Sidebar application. It sounds like it somehow got disassociated.
Bill, it shouldn’t be asking you to uninstall.. Hmm.. Either way, you should be able to delete the current gadget by going to your documents folder -> My Google Gadgets -> then delete the XM Online Radio.gg file.
Gary, glad to hear it’s working.
Actually I think my sidebar is a windows vista sidebar so I am not sure if I even need this patch but the gadget is still not working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it a dozen times. The menu flys out asking me to login and when I fill in my information and click the login button nothing happens.
Michele, Sounds like Vista. Don’t worry about this patch. Try restarting the sidebar application itself on your computer (right-click, Exit, start, type “Windows Sidebar” click program of the same name) and that should clear up the login issue.
Works great for me. I had an issue where it would not start playing when i clicked on a channel. It wasn’t connecting to the XM stream at all and was just sitting idle after i returned my computer from hibernate but minimizing the google sidebar and then remaximizing it made it work.
Also a suggestion, perhaps add the current version into the about section in the menu.
I tried what you suggested but it still doesn’t work, any other suggestions?
Jeremy, thanks for the suggestion, we’ll look into implementing that for the next version.
Michele, Try a persistent settings fix. Gadget Settings -> Reset -> Delete then follow the instructions there.
Ok, so I did the persistent settings fix, it didn’t work. I also tried deleting the whole folder, then reinstalling it and still it didn’t work. When all else failed I signed up for a free xm online account and tried logging in through the gadget and it still won’t login, but I can login directly through the xm online page.
HELP! I just don’t understand why it suddenly stopped working for me.
The gadget won’t let me log on, it says connection error.
I have reset it, deleted it, reinstalled it and even checked to make sure my XM account was working… the gadget is still not working.
Michele, we’ll post something up if we can think of anything else that might help, if that login button is stuck, it’s usually due to the sidebar being locked down, but restarting the sidebar should have unlocked it.
Samantha, XM underwent some maintenance this morning, try it again, it might be working now.
Channels changed on XM today (100-104 moved up.) I subscribed to best of Sirius as well (Channels 100 and beyond…) Do we get a channel update on the gadget? Thanks?
Channels updated, simply click on the XM logo on the gadget and select “Re-Build Channel List” or re-add the gadget to the sidebar.
No sound here… network activity seems to indicate that a connection is being made to the XM servers; just can’t hear any audio. (Yes, mute is off.) Tried the usual resets/rebuilds, no joy.
Thanks for your efforts!
Kenzo, it looks like XM is currently down. Maybe try it again in a few hours or double check that XM’s radio is back up before re-trying.
Great little product, hopefully I can keep it running consistantly with the new version. Silly litle ?. How can i tell which ver. I’m running (on XP sidebar) the “about” menu option doesnt give a version. Thanks
Another Quick ?. (thanks for telling me how to log off/on-I missed that the XM logo had the links function)
Can the gadget remember my password when I go to log on. Also I find it odd that when I log off it keeps playing
I may have cross posted this somewhere else -sorry.
Any chance of having the gadget remember my password on login?
I also find it odd that after i logoff it keeps playing.
I can not receive any sound…have downloaded the patch from 9/26.
Any advise?
I am encountering the same problem as many others on this thread.
I am using Vista Ultimate 64bit, XM Vista sidebar (non-google version). After entering my login/pass and clicking the Login button or hitting [enter] nothing happens. I have restarted my computer, restarted the sidebar, removed all XM config files and reinstalled. No luck so far. The gadget was working up until about a week ago (sept 22, 2008) then it abruptly stopped functioning.
Any help appreciated. Thx!
Has anyone been able to listen to Stern 100 or Stern 101 with this gadget? It works perfectly, except for the ‘Best Of Sirius’ channels, which I have paid for.
These channels work on my XM radio as well as XM Radio Online.
I hope someone figures out how to get these new channels working properly.
Rob
I cannot get the XM gadget to log on…using the same username and password that gets me on via XM’s own website, the gadget keeps returning a login error “username and password error”.
Hey guys, we’re working on trying to figure out what’s going on with the XM gadgets. Seems the “Scheduled Maintenance” that XM Sirius started was pretty intensive and knocked out a lot of third party apps.
We’re looking into it, hopefully it’ll be a couple simple fixes. Thank you for your patience.
I think I may have narrowed the gadget issues down to the recent Windows Service Pack update. Hopefully it will get resolved shortly.
Your gadget won’t accept my usnername.
As an XM Radio Canada subscriber, my account doesn’t have a username; instead, I use my email as a username.
Any chance this gadget wil be updated to include XM Radio Canada subscribers?
It sure has been a frustrating week with both the gadget and XM Sirius. The problem seems to have started with XM program update. Finally got the online login through XM to work, but for the last week the gadget has not worked at all. It just wouldn’t log in. So tonight as I was reading through all the comments I tried doing this: I completely uninstalled and reinstalled Google Desktop, deleted all the files out of the gadget folder in my documents, then reinstalled the gadget. Odd thing is that when the gadget reinstalled, it was up and running without my having to log in. Login info must be stored other than in the gadget folder? Maybe this will help others. It’s working right now, but I won’t know until tomorrow if it will work again when I log in.
I also just want to say that this gadget is great and thanks for your continuing work on it. Not often that you get something so useful gratis.
Hey Tim:
I have a canadian sub and it works fine. You probably need to go to the xm web site and set up a username/password for the online service.
Mike
add my name to the list that had been getting xm from gadgets but within last few weeks I am not. I got his computer in July and all was working fine but now I do not get any audio. I have tried re installing but to no avail. The sidebar indicates I am getting songs as it lists the name and artist but no actual audio. If I go to xm’s actual site and log on I do get their online service. Thanks
this website is so confusing. i cannot tell where to find things for the google xm and where to find for the vista xm. why on earth dont you organize this like most programming companies instead of making it such a maze? i really like your products but you need to make things easier and fix things when they break.
Durganger, we’re actually in the middle of a complete overhaul of the website and hope to have something in place within the next couple of weeks.
Both Vista and Google XM are the same project, different platforms, so other than support info, they pretty much fall under the same heading. Which is how we figured most companies operated when porting programs from one platform to another…
Any suggestions on how you’d like to see the site re-organized?
Thanks for this awesome XM Gadget. I love it!
I had been using the xm sidebar gadget for a year and a half but now it just stopped working and I can’t even get XM through their website.
I cannot get the XM gadget to log on…using the same username(email) and password that gets me on via XM’s own website, the gadget keeps returning a login error “username and password error”. I have reset the gadget but it will not work.
Mitch, Double check that you have a radio ID attached to the online side of your account on XMRadio.com.
Will all the channels change on the gadget tonight at midnight when all the channels change on XM?
There was a huge channel lineup change. Hopefully you guys will have a fix for this soon. Love the gadget.
Hey guys, the channel list for the gadget has been updated to reflect the new rollout, just re-add the gadget to the sidebar and it should be working.
Not only is my gadget still not working, I tried uninstalling the old one and reinstalling since the new channel lineup and not it wont even launch at all. The icon goes to my sidebar but the login button is missing, there are just words that say XM in tiny letters at the top and Login(settings) at the bottom. When I click it nothing happens, the fly out isn’t even there.
I really miss this gadget!
Michele, that is pretty odd. Do you have the latest version of Google Desktop installed as well as the latest version of the gadget? Also try resetting the gadget by right-clicking and selecting Reset -> Everything, that might help as well.
I have Vista and the XM toolbar gadget hasn’t worked since Sep 22 or so.
I tried right clicking and nothing happens.
Michele, try right-clicking on a button on the gadget, one of the updates disabled it for div elements. Either that or just go to the gadget menu itself by clicking on the down arrow on the menu that fades in when you mouse onto the gadget.
Everyday when I log in, I must click and log out and back in to XM via the gadget or it won’t play. It appears to be logged in, but no audio or playlist titles appear. Is this normal?
Some of the channels that are available online are not showing up in the player like Viva! AND Oprah and Friends channel is listed in the gadget as 165 but should be 156 and cannot be accessed through the gadget.
OK, so here is what I did and it still is not working.
Right clicked, went to options> reset> delete. Deleted the .xml file. Closed the gadget. Rebooted my computer. Opened the gadget entered in my email address and password and it still won’t go past the log in. When I click the button, nothing happens the fly out just sits there.
I then decided to completely uninstall the gadget, rebooted again, went to the Get gadgets online page and found the XM gadget. When I downloaded the gadget and installed it from there it turned out to be a System Control gadget even thought it was listed as the XM gadget. I uninstalled and rebooted once again, came here to your site and downloaded the gadget from here, installed it and it is still not working.
I don’t know what to do next.
Michele
Radio Hanukkah is not appearing in the gadget, I’ve tried to rebuild the Channel list. It’s on Chanel 38 on my radio, or Channel 23 on XM radio online.
