Ultimate Explorer 1.1 Update Launched!

Posted in Development, Gadget Stuff, News & Updates

We just launched the newest update to our popular Ultimate Explorer gadget!  Here’s a breakdown of what’s what:

  1. Default Browser:  Fixed.  Regular links still work as they did, but any web searches will now work in whatever default browser you have.
  2. Update Notifier:  We added an update notifier feature that checks our server once a day to see if there is a new update to the gadget.  If there is, it will display a green button in the lower left hand corner of the gadget.  If you click the button, it will display a flyout with relevant information and links.  This can be disabled in the Settings->Advanced->Updates tab.  Regular update notification in the same tab still works.
  3. Drop Down Awkwardness:  Fixed, it’s all pretty now!
  4. The Reset Button:  Has been renamed to “Restore Default Settings.”
  5. The Search Engine Menu: Can now be closed by clicking anywhere in the gadget.
  6. The Current Search Term:  Can be erased with a double-click.  Single click will still allow editing.
  7. Default Skin: Will now display the right way in the settings panel.

Excellent update, any chance of adding Ebay UK?

    Thanks! :)

We’ll keep eBay UK in mind. I think we can probably squeeze it into a future update. Truth be told, we’ve been waiting to do more with the eBay engine, though I was hoping they would have their bulk api out by now.

I’m unable to watch youtube videos in the flyout video. The standard “unable to load image” image (with the red square, green circle and blue triangle) appears in the upper right corner instead of the video. Any ideas on why that feature isn’t working?

Other than that though, fantastic gadget; one of my favs!

Thanks! On The YouTube Thing: We noticed that for some reason, Vista doesn’t include an updated version of flash right out of the box. Try going to Adobe.com and installing the latest version and if you want, test it on YouTube. That should fix the problem, if it doesn’t, then there may be something else going on.

It appears that any search term which includes more than one space the gadget has a problem relaying it to the browser. I’ve tested this in both firefox and IE. For example if I search google with the gadget using “test” it works fine, but if I use “test a test” everything after the “a” gets cut out and does not appear in the search term box in google in the browswer. Furhter testing showed that if I put “testing atest” (note no space after the ‘a’) the whole thing appears in the google page search box and the whole term is searched. This problem ocurrs for all search options in the gadget. I have version 1.1 installed.

I’ll take a look at that and see what I can do. It should be a pretty easy fix, I’ll just look and see if the gadget is encoding the search term or not. 1.2 is going to be launching by mid next week, so this should be over pretty soon.

Just wanted to add in that I got the problem solved and it will be in the next update coming out next week.

  9. Vandal Says:

Excellent! I appreciate the great work!

I noticed that the version number in the About section still says 1.0. It made me think I had the old version still.

  11. admin Says:

I think we found that and fixed it. If you re-download the current version it should already be fixed. If it isn’t, it definetly will be for 1.2.
