Facebook Explorer 1.0.6

Posted in Fb Explorer, Gadgets

We promised everyone an update to the Facebook gadget and we finally have one. While we’re not adding any new features to this update, we have redesigned a lot of the code in the hopes that it will fix some of the issues that people are having concerning authentication, friends feed not showing up, and having to login on reboot.

As always, let us know if you run into any problems and we’ll do our best to help out. :)

you should make it so that we can see if we have any notifications! thats all i really care about on my facebook!

  2. The Staff Says:

Hi Tori, Thanks for the feedback. If you click the ‘Me’ tab at the bottom of the gadget, you will see the ‘Messages’ link. All notifications should be available through this link. Note that you will have to go to the actual FB page to see them. Adding more functionality within the gadget (this included) is on our list for future updates.

  3. tori Says:

Not just messages… “notifications” can be set to tell you when someone writes on your wall, or comments on a picture, etc. Notifications can technically inform you about friend requests, wall posts, comments, and event invites if the user sets it up that way. THAT is what should be included in the next update! otherwise its pretty sweet!!

  4. The Staff Says:

Tori, Sorry. Was not on the same page with the first reply. As far as the notifications you are talking about, currently they are not available in the Facebook API so we have no way to retrieve them. This is certainly a very good suggestion and we have added it to our list. When/if this becomes available, we will be sure to look into adding.

why does the code generator not work? I can’t login in without a code and i have been trying to get a code for most of the night. The page it redirects you to never loads.

  6. Brantley Says:

It would be great if there was support for facebook chat on the gadget.

  7. WeiLeng Says:

i have the code. but its say invalid. how?

  8. The Staff Says:

Hi Chandler/WeiLeng, Very sorry to hear that you are having this problem. This recent update was designed for fix this code generation issue that just will not seem to go away. We have been trying to fix it since the original release to no avail. We will keep trying however and will post when a new update is available. I wish I had better news.

Hi Brantley, We have chat on our list for a future update. It is one of the most sought after improvements for this gadget so it will likely be in the next revision. We will post when it is ready. Thanks for the feedback and let us know if you have any other suggestions.

This was a neat gadget, but today it stopped working properly. It stopped receiving friend updates, and it keeps disappearing. I’ve closed and restarted it several times. Logged out and back in several times and rebooted my laptop, all to no avail.

  11. Kaye Says:

    hi
i want to see status updates not news feed but i missed my opportunity after using my code should i uninstall and reinstall

  12. Tamas Says:

    Helllo,

this version does not refresh the friend aczivity, only once when i start windows. The previous version worked well, from where can i download it again? (i did not find any url)

    thank you

  13. Erik Says:

A suggestion. Make it possible for us to use a generated friend list. Currently the standard newsfeed is totally spammed if participating in any kind of game / app on FB. Having the option to use a specific freind list would be of great value to this gadget.

Thanks for making this gadget as well. Great tool.

  14. The Staff Says:

Hi Chuck, try the following and see if it works… click the Settings tab, select the Help tab, click the ‘Click to open data folder’ link and delete the Fb-Explorer-Data.xml file. Then readd the gadget to the sidebar. Let us know if you continue to have problems.

  15. The Staff Says:

Hi Kevin Royalty, Try saving the file to the desktop and then running the install from there. If this doesn’t work, please let us know.

  16. The Staff Says:

Hi Kaye, Try logging out and then logging back in which should prompt you for everything again. To do this, just click the Settings button and click the Logout link in the flyout. Let us know if this doesn’t do the trick.

  17. The Staff Says:

Hi Tamas, Sorry for the issues you are having. Try deleting the gadget, restarting the sidebar, and then reinstalling the gadget. We have had trouble with this in the past which was the principle reason for this update. Please let us know if this doesn’t work as it might mean there are still additional problems that we will need to address.

  18. The Staff Says:

Hi Erik, Thanks for the feedback and we are glad to know that you are enjoying the gadget. We have this improvement on a short list for a future update and will post when that update is available.

  19. pillows14 Says:

i hope we can also see if someone writes on your wall, it is not really important to see your friends activities like if they levelled up on mafia or farmville…. the wall messages are more imoprtant than those games update. i hope this can be fixed soon :)

  20. Jared Says:

I dont know if it is the Facebook newsfeed/status changes or the new version of this gadget, but the gadget is completely unusable for me now. I dont want to see if someone bought a cow in farmville or posted a picture, i just what is on my wall and friends status updates to show on my sidebar. Please fix this soon.

  21. The Staff Says:

I keep on doing this from the start allover again…
Is there an Installation manual for this?

  23. The Staff Says:

John, do you have the latest version of the gadget installed (1.1.0)? It should be a simple as clicking a button, watching the page pop-up, filling in your login on Facebook, then clicking next on the gadget.
