XM Online Radio 1.9.1

Posted in Gadgets, XM Online Radio

Today Sirius XM changed all of their player links and broke every 3rd party player in existence. Every. 3rd. Party. Player. We were not happy and neither were quite a few of you who wrote in. We have good news though, the 1.9.1 version of the gadget switches the links and player around and should work for everyone. We currently have the Vista version up and running and the Google version should get fixed pretty soon as well.

As always, let us know if you run into any issues and we’ll do our best to get them resolved. Thanks for everyone’s patience on this.

  1. Jim D. Says:

Thank you! I did a reinstall today and couldn’t figure out for the life me why this wasn’t working. It looks like it was just bad timing. This updated fixed the problems I was having with not hearing anything from the channels.

  2. Bill Says:

Installed the new version, logged out and back in to XM. However, I’m still getting no sound from the gadget. I’m running Windows 7.

  3. CK Says:

My Vista still now working it was updating but no sound.

Windows seven, i hit reset.. and now can’t recognize the user id.

the bums.. Great app by the way !!!! looking for your version of a iphone app .. much better than theirs..

    cheers

  4. Bill Says:

You may ignore my previous comment. I had to reboot my system to get the new version to work…but it’s fine now. Thanks!

  5. mat Says:

thank you for fixing the problem so quickly!!!!!

  6. Tom Ray Says:

V1.9.1 fixed the login issue on my Windows 7 x64 Professional system. Thanks very much. It’s nice to have good music back.

There is an issue with the option to force focus on the flyout. If this option is selected, the flyout flashes open and then promptly closes. It was happening in V1.9 as well. This started with Windows 7….it worked fine on Vista x64 Business.

  7. Jeff R. Says:

I just installed 1.9.1 on Vista SP2. It takes the login but when I click on a station the player keeps flashing “getting info.” I’ve tried re-adding/restarting sidebar/rebooting and it’s a no-go.

  8. jimmy Says:

I can’t figure out why it’s telling me invalid email/username and password when my logon and password work fine in Firefox. Weird.

  9. jimmy Says:

Nm. I got it to work.

  10. Brett H. Says:

I tried the new 1.9.1 version and it does not let me login to the radio. The older version was working fine until the XM change yesterday. I’m running Windows 7 64-bit.

  11. WMACK Says:

Thanks for the quick fix. Love the widget.

  12. Kevin W. Says:

I just did the reinstall, but I’m still not having any luck. Any other things I might need to do?

  13. Jerry B. Says:

    Thanks! It worked for me.

A side note: I didn’t know there was an updated version (1.9.1) until coming to this site. When I clicked “Check for Gadget Updates” in 1.9, the gadget said it was up-to-date but as we know now it wasn’t.

  14. Nellis Says:

Still not working for me, running Vista 64-bit.

  15. Chris Says:

Thanks guys for being on top of the situation and getting a quick update up! That’s why your the best! People on Yahoo Widgets and so forth are freaking out lol. I knew it was a XM issue.

  16. DAV Says:

As they say “**it happens”. I need the google update. When will we know it’s ready?

  17. Nellis Says:

Nevermind, I uninstalled, reinstalled and cleared favorites and settings, working now. You guys are amazing. Too bad you can’t fix XaMp Studio.

  18. Brian Says:

    Hello,

I had a simple xm script that was used in conjunction with MPD on linux that would spit out URLs for me. I’ve found the new URLs, however when grabbing the pages I seem to be missing something important and everything past the XM login page (which I can authenticate with) just gives me Error Code:9990.

If you could throw me an email to help me resolve this I’d appreciate it.

  19. Joel Says:

Is there any way that this gadget could update the MSN Messenger to show what I’m listening to? If this could be made to work, then I could stop using XAMP and use this gadget for what I need to do.

  20. MIKE F Says:

Thank you so much. I was so pissed when the link went down. The 1.9.1 version works perfect.

  21. Jeff Says:

Same problem as Bill. Installed the new version, however shows what is playing but no sound. Suggestions anyone?

  22. Peter Says:

1.9.1 unfortunately doesn’t work for Vista Ultimate for me. It shows the channels, but no info on what is playing and no sound. It just keeps saying “Getting Info”. Hope you guys get it fixed soon. Probably the best Gadget out there. Thanks.

  23. Tad Says:

Yep, still the same problem. I cannot login the gadget. It says “invalid username/password” when I try to login.

    I am using Windows 7.

  24. Dave Says:

    For Vista…
Delete gadget and uninstall it. Add updated gadget.
Don’t login. First close windows sidebar and then reopen it. Now login..voila!

Couldn’t fix XP computers using the Google gadget. Still trying to figure that one out. Any suggestions?

  25. The Staff Says:

Glad to hear it’s working for at least half or more of you.

For no sound issues, check this link out: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/tutorials/aspnet/187cb72b-8da5-4dd9-b061-52e6d6304bee/c00d11bb%E2%80%93resolve-protoc.aspx

Those with login issues on Windows 7, try killing the sidebar service with ctrl-alt-del and then going to c: -> Program Files -> Windows Sidebar -> Sidebar.exe

If that doesn’t work, try deleting all the XML files and reinstalling the gadget. Just head to the gadget settings panel -> Help -> and follow the instructions on the bottom.

If you’re on Windows Vista, just restart the sidebar if it says “Loading”, if it’s coming back as invalid, reinstall and then double check your settings on XM.

The old gadget was working off a different updates system, so it might not reflect the 1.9.1 update the way the new one will.

Google Sidebar gadget will hopefully be ready to go sometime next week.

We’ll look into updating the MSN messenger with the gadget, but the outlook probably isn’t that great given the way the sidebar platform works.

    @Brian: Say what now?

Thanks for being patient with us everyone, we’re still working through the kinks on it and maybe someday nobody will have any issues. *crosses fingers*

  26. Peter Says:

    “Dave Says:

    For Vista…
Delete gadget and uninstall it. Add updated gadget.
Don’t login. First close windows sidebar and then reopen it. Now login..voila!”

    Thanks Guys….This worked for me!!!!

  27. Kevin W. Says:

Ah ha! That did it. Close sidebar.exe in the Task Manager, then reload. Works like a charm.

  28. Brian Says:

Thank you guys so much. You are my freaking heros right now.

  29. Rick F. Says:

Thanks for responding so quickly. Look forward to Google Sidebar fix. This gadget is a much better alternative to the standard XMRO web-based interface. I was beginning to wonder if Sirius/XM was simply yanking the interface in order to compel using the iPhone app

  30. Walden Says:

Reinstall worked for me! 64bit Win7. But I too had to come here to get the download. The “Check for Updates” in the gadget said I was up to date.

  31. JP Says:

So what are the new URLs for logging in and tuning to a channel?

  32. The Staff Says:

@Rick F., Look for a Google update sometime soon this week and yeah, the jury is still out on what Sirius XM was attempting to do with this update.

@Walden, cool. The update system on the 1.9 must not be able to see the extra digit we added in. At this point though, we figure everyone will be dropping by at least one of the mirrors to update since the gadget stopped working altogether.

@JP, the new URLs are in the gadget source code if you want to take a look.

  33. Tom Ray Says:

XMRadio V1.9.1 on Windows 7 x64 Professional. XMRadio gadget was closed/uninstalled and then re-installed.

There is still a problem with the gadget. If I “Stop” the playing, I cannot get it to restart playing by clicking on the “play” arrow. Even changing channels does not allow it to start playing again. The channel info displays okay.

The only way I can get it restarted without rebooting the computer is to go to the XMRadio website and sign on to my XMRadio account. I then exit the website. Then the XMRadio gadget will start playing again when I click on the “Play” arrow. This is 100% repeatable on my system.

This was not happening prior to the XMRadio website change that screwed up V1.9. I could stop and start playing quite reliably.

  34. The Staff Says:

Tom, it sounds like the re-login function isn’t working, but so far we haven’t been able to replicate it here. This also sounds like it could be a weird cookie issue if you have to log back into the website to get it working.

Have you tried logging out and back in again on the gadget to see if that fixes it as well? We’ll try again to see if we can replicate the issue, but it’s most likely either going to be a code problem or an IE problem.

  35. Gary Says:

    Works for me! Thanks.

I know you probably didn’t attempt to address this in the update, but wanted you to know that the “show desktop” button still minimizes this gadget for some reason (this was documented under the 1.9 forum).

To reproduce the problem, install the gadget on a clean Win7 box, then hit the show desktop button to the right of the clock on the taskbar. The gadget disappears.

  36. The Staff Says:

Gary, we just got to testing that out on the new Win 7 machine and wow that is weird. Not only did it disappear the first time, it actually uninstalled it somehow.

We’ll look into this, but man this is an odd one.

  37. Tom Ray Says:

    My bad….

The restart issue is/was in fact a cookie issue. When I recently rebuilt my Windows 7 system, I failed to set up CCleaner to keep xmradio.com and http://www.radio.com cookies when I run CCleaner…which I run frequently. Correcting the CCleaner setup fixed the restart problem on XMRadio gadget.

I see the same as Gary concerning the show desktop bar on Windows 7. It does not uninstall the gadget however.

  38. Caroline Says:

We were so sad when this stopped working the other day, we have it on all the time, and I just got around to trying to fix it – I just want to say a big thankyou to all the posts on here, as I would have given up if I had not read these. I fought with it for a while trying different things and following advice, but in the end I had to not only to uninstall it, but had to delete ALL the files in the system for buildagadet – re-downloaded it, rebooted the laptop and closed the sidebar, restarted the sidebar and then logged in and hooray it worked!! (we have Vista) Thanks, this is such a great little gadget we are happy to be listening again..

  39. Mark Says:

I see the same issue on Win 7, but it doesn’t uninstall it. If I click the ’show desktop’ again, the gadget reappears.

Thank you for the update. This is my far my fav. gadget.

  40. The Staff Says:

Glad to hear everyone got the gadget working again.

The uninstall we saw on the show desktop test was just temporary, one we hit the button again, it showed up as normal, it was just odd that the gadget magically appeared in the recycle bin is all.

  41. George Says:

Yay…Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for working on fixing the gadget.

It is now working on Win7 x 64.

I really missed having it…This gadget is the best of the lot bar none!

  42. Bob Says:

    Just wanted to thank everyone.
I couldn’t live without this Gadget.
    Have a musical turkey day!

  43. Steve Says:

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 32-Bit, but I really didn’t like the lack of a sidebar for the gadgets and the fact that they couldn’t always be visable. I searched and found several links that explained how to basically install the Vista sidebar in Windows 7. Here is one of the links for instructions to do this: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/587-vista-windows-sidebar-reinstate-windows-7-a.html After upgrading to Windows 7, the XM Gadget worked fine, as long as it was on the desktop. (This was prior to Nov. 20th with 1.9 and now I have installed 1.91) I Then followed instructions to make the Vista sidebar gadgets work in Windows 7. Now the problem: All the gadgets seem to work except your XM Radio gadget, the most important one! Here’s what doesn’t happen…the flyouts do nothing. At first it would show the Click Here To Start button, but it didn’t do anything. The only thing I could do is open the tools menu and eventually, I reset the gadget completely, so now all I get is the XM Login screen, but again the Login Button doesn’t launch the flyout.
This has been very frustrating, because I want it to behave exactly like it did in Vista. Please see if you can duplicate my problem and give me a workaround.

  44. thomas Says:

    1.9.1 worked on my windows7

    THANK YOU!!!

  45. The Staff Says:

Steve, we’re getting the feeling that something might be wrong with the way Win 7 handles onfocus commands. Honestly, we can’t think of anything else that would cause something like this plus the hiding problem people have been running into. We haven’t been able to recreate the flyout problems your having, but maybe if we fix the hiding issue, we’ll fix your flyout problem as well.

  46. Felix Says:

    Great work on the update!
It worked straight away on my laptop, however not on my desktop.
Maybe because I tried to connect the day they were updating things at XM. I couldn’t connect with the iPhone app too.
After deleting the XML files it worked again.

  47. Anthony Says:

I am having a similar issue that steve is having. When I click on “Click here to start” the menu opens for half a second than instantly closes. I have uninstalled reinstalled and done all that sing and dance and none of that has helped. I would love to get this app working. Any help would be awsome.

I am on Windows 7 pro 32 bit.

  48. Anthony Says:

ok, so unchecking the “Force Flyout Focus” under options has resolved my issue. I am now currently listening to my lovely XM radio. Thank!

  49. Steve Says:

Thanks for the quick release of 1.9.1. I recently upgraded to Win7 32bit, and now I notice screensaver does not work if the gadget is playing. I hit stop and screensaver works again. I don’t know for sure that this is a Win 7 problem, just happen to notice it now.
    Thanks for a great product.

  50. The Staff Says:

Steve, it could have something to do with the media player embedded in the gadget keeping the screensaver from being activated, though this is more of a platform issue than a sidebar one. We’ll keep an eye out for any solutions for it though.

  51. Bryan Says:

I know you’re aware, but just as further evidence that it affects more people, I too have the hiding/minimizing problem when using “show desktop” on Windows 7. It’s good to know you’re planning to fix that. VERY nice gadget. Thanks.

  52. Steve Says:

Thanks for the quick reply on screensaver. From your comment, I think I see the problem.
    In Windows Media Player (v12.0.7600.16415)
Tools > Options > Player Tab
    Click “Allow Screensaver during playback”
I have not tested it yet. Will let you know.

  53. Jimmy Says:

Did the gadget stop working again (12/1) for anyone else or is it just me?

  54. Steve Says:

Screensaver in Win 7 – The Tools>Options>Player Tab “Allow screensaver during playback” does work. I think this is turned off by default with a Win 7 install.

  55. The Staff Says:

Jimmy, we just tested it again, sorry buddy, it’s just you. Try restarting the sidebar and see if that helps. Is it not logging in or not playing sound?

  56. jimmy Says:

It worked fine on 12/2, then on 12/3 it wasn’t working again but then I restarted the gadget like you suggested and now it works. Yeah it logs in and I can see the information in the window, just no sound. But like I said, it’s working atm.

  57. The Staff Says:

Jimmy, we updated the XM support info with better instructions on fixing the sound issues: http://www.buildagadget.com/Support-Product.php?Code=XM#TopicA4

  58. Tom Ray Says:

Thanks Steve and Staff for the soluton concerning the screensaver with XMRadio. I’ve been hunting for the solution for a long time :) .

If you want your Vista or Win 7 system to be able to go into Sleep mode while XMRadio gadget or Windows Media Player is playing , the following is the trick.

    - Control Panel -> Power Options -> If “High Performance” is selected, choose something else, like “Balanced” (I don’t know why this works) -> Change plan settings (for the chosen power plan)

-> Change advanced power settings -> Scroll down to Multimedia settings -> Choose “Allow the computer to sleep”

  59. Steve Says:

This is the first Steve with the problem running XMRadio gadget in a Vista style sidebar but under Windows 7 Ultimate. I don’t know what changed, but I clicked on the Login button and the flyout worked and now I have the gadget working again, just as it did in Vista. I don’t think I’ll ever know why it works now, but I’m just glad to have it working again!

  60. Steve Says:

After a few hours of running the gadget normally, I had to reboot and now it doesn’t fly out again! It says Click Here To Start but nothing happens when you click on it. Anybody have any ideas what’s going on that it can start working and then stop working? I updated my audio driver but that shouldn’t have anything to do with this problem.

  61. The Staff Says:

Steve, try restarting the sidebar otherwise, head into settings and toggle the “Flyout Focus Fix” option and see if that helps.

  62. Gary Says:

Hmm I’m running Vista and this fix did not work for me…I’ll try it agsin and see…

  63. The Staff Says:

Gary, yeah, just try it one more time, it should work, may just need to do a full uninstall / reinstall.

  64. MikeD Says:

I just got the Gadget for my new Windows7 installation. It’s great so thanks! I saw a comment from “The Staff” about the source code and I’d like to see it if possible. I have some home automation software I wrote that now has a non-functioning XM player. I have updated URLs and such but I haven’t been able get the actual streams to play. So seeing the source code here would be great if that’s possible.
    Thanks!

  65. The Staff Says:

MikeD, the source code on our gadgets is non-obfuscated, just open it up and take a look.

  66. MikeD Says:

Oh well then how do I get at the source of a .gadget? I’ve never messed with gadget development.
    Thanks for the response.

  67. The Staff Says:

MikeD, you can look at the source by going to C:\ -> Users -> [Your User Name] -> AppData -> Local -> Microsoft -> Windows Sidebar -> Gadgets. Then just head into whichever gadget folder you want. Otherwise, you can rename the .gadget as a .zip and open it that way as well.

  68. Alexander Says:

I was running 1.9 and when i checked for an update through the application, it said i had the most recent version. Luckily i found the developer blog for the app and 1.91 resolves the login issue.

For some reason though, the app told me 1.9 was the most recent and i almost gave up. Might be something to consider!

But thank you for fixing the links and providing such an awesome sidebar app – the XM online player is pure crap and this is perfect. Thanks!

  69. The Staff Says:

Alexander, the 1.9 version is running off from an older update system that for some reason can’t handle the third digit we’re now using. After this upgrade though, updates should be running much smoother and be more standardized.

  70. Ed Says:

Well, 1.91 worked for a while, but now it has stopped working too. It logs in and shows what’s currently playing but there’s no sound, and the no-sound fix doesn’t help. Nothing else I’ve tried helps either. I’ve pretty much given up on this gadget, which is a real shame because I used it for months without problems until recently, and now it pretty much never works.

  71. Ed Says:

Disregard my last post. As it turns out, it was some stupidity on XM’s part. They decided to deactivate my online account for no apparent reason and without telling me. After a few minutes on the phone with them, I got the account straightened out and the gadget started working once I deleted it and re-added it.

Sorry for wasting your time and blaming you for XM’s stupidity. I have now happily un-given up on this gadget. :-)

  72. The Staff Says:

Ed, glad to hear you got it working again. :D

  73. sdgsgd Says:

ok, just saw this is already discussed….in win 7 64, when i hit show desktop at very bottom right, this gadget disappears. all the other gadgets do not disappear. gadget reappeaars when i re-show desktop or maximize something. this doesn’t happen, however if after a fresh boot the gadget has not been touched. only happens after a channel has been accesed and played

  74. Ken Says:

Ok, XM has done something again. Gadget stopped working, so I went to “listen online” on XM’s site. That would not work either. My account was deactivated, they fixed that, then was getting DNS errors from their site, then http 400 errors, then they finally got their crap together and their applet worked. Now the buildagadget applet does not work (1.9.1 on win7) I get program info that is updated, but no sound. Again, their web pages does work with my account settings, so account is good. I deleted, re-downloaded, reset info, reinstalled 1.9.1…not working.
    Any ideas?

  75. The Staff Says:

sdgsgd, we’re aware that the gadget does this and we’re hoping to get it fixed on the next update. It most likely has something to do with the onfocus event on the gadget.

  76. The Staff Says:

Ken, try out these instructions: http://www.buildagadget.com/Support-Product.php?Code=XM#TopicA4

  77. Matt Says:

I thought I was having the no sound issue, so I logged out of the gadget and did the steps and when I attempted to log in again, I receive an invalid email/password error. I tried it out and XM’s page to verify and I can log in and listen to the stream there.

Any idea how to fix this?

  78. The Staff Says:

Matt, we’re still working on why the login issues are happening. We’re planning to revisit the gadget soon to try and stabilize the update.

  79. Buck Says:

FYI….I’ve installed the gadget on 5 VISTA machines and 6 WIN7 machines and the login error occurred on all of them. Like , Matt, I can still log on and use the website player

  80. The Staff Says:

Buck, have you tried changing your password? It shouldn’t have the same problem on that many different machines if it was a system glitch. We’re working on revamping the code though, hopefully in the next update everything will work properly.

  81. Chris Says:

I am using 64-bit Windows 7 and the gadget appears to only work when logged in with administrator privileges. My standard login on the machine does not have admin rights to the machine and I still cannot even get past the login.

  82. The Staff Says:

Chris, not sure what to tell you, the login is probably not working because it’s getting blocked by the security. As far as we can tell, there isn’t a good way around that. If you can decrease the UAC level, that might help.

  83. Scott Says:

I’m having the same issue as Chris, running the same OS as him, however I have the admin rights on my pc. It keeps telling me my user name/ password is incorrect but using the same info I can log in to XM online and thru my iPhone.

  84. Scott Says:

Never mind my post above. I just realized I had version 1.9 and not 1.9.1. Its working fine now.

  85. David Asp Says:

I am using Win7 64-bit. The XM Gadget was working just fine, this morning I tried to start it and nothing. I get the info on what song is playing but no sound. I tried re-installing it and also tried updatine the file you recommended but still nothing. I really miss the Gadget and want it back, any new ideas?

  86. The Staff Says:

David, have you tried the instructions on the website? http://www.buildagadget.com/Support-Product.php?Code=XM#TopicA4

  87. Chris Says:

My Xm sidebar player doesnt work at all. It installs but when you need to enter in your account name and password it doesnt work. It keeps coming up with an Error message saying the e-mail or password is incorrect. its been doing this for the past 6 months and im getting tired of it

  88. The Staff Says:

Chris, we’re still looking into the login issues. For now, one thing that may work is to login to XM from Internet Explorer, and then login to the gadget.

  89. Bill Says:

I’ve also been having the “no sound” issue off and on for the past few days, with no apparent way to solve from this end. When it happens, I am able to listen to the XM web player, so the stream itself seems to be working.

  90. The Staff Says:

    Bill, try these out: http://www.buildagadget.com/Support-Product.php?Code=XM#TopicA4

  91. Bill Says:

I did try the suggested, and after a reboot the gadget worked again the first time. However, the next time I tried using it, the “no sound” issue was back.

I’ve used the gadget for quite some time, but the problem has only started recently. I don’t believe that anything significant has changed on my system to cause the problem…but who knows!

  92. Bob Says:

I’m having trouble in not getting audio with my gadget too. I can login with IE8 and play XMRO just fine. The gadget just started having this issue today. I think I saw someting on the IE page about needing to delete cookies. I didn’t delete eanything but clearly something has changed recently.

  93. Bill Says:

My sound is also not working for the last few days. Did XM change something again?

  94. The Staff Says:

Doesn’t look like XM made any overt changes, though we’ll look into the problem. For now, try the no sound instructions on our website and see if they help.

  95. Bill Says:

Thank you for looking into it. I have followed the instructions, but did not do any good. I’ll just use the web browser to get access for now. I’ll just keep trying it or check for any updates.

Thanks again for making such a great gadget!

  96. David Asp Says:

I have tried that twice, no change.

  97. The Staff Says:

David, we’re still looking into alternate solutions to the problem. Another thing to try is downgrading Flash player to version 7.

  98. BillW Says:

    >>Another thing to try is downgrading Flash player to version 7.<<

Aren't there some security holes in older Flash versions, though?

  99. The Staff Says:

Bill, it’s a temporary solution to see if the Flash player is causing the glitch.

  100. BillW Says:

    >>Bill, it’s a temporary solution to see if the Flash player is causing the glitch.<<

    Gotcha. I'll try that.

  101. BillW Says:

Before trying Flash 7, I uninstalled and removed all traces of Flash from my system, rebooted, then reinstalled the latest Flash version. I’ve been able to start and stop the gadget a number of times over the past few hours and I haven’t had the “no sound” problem.

Could just be coincidence, of course — but over the past few days I could rarely get sound out of the gadget twice in a row.

  102. David Asp Says:

I tried loading 7 and I still do not get sound.

  103. The Staff Says:

David, well, it was worth a shot. Not sure what else to try. Though we did just come out with the XM Chrome extension, that might work if the gadget isn’t.
