XM Online Radio 1.0

Posted in Gadgets, XM Online Radio

So we’ve been cooking something up. It’s small, it’s tiny, but it’s powerful. And it’s radio. XM radio to be exact. What we have here ladies and gentlemen, is the next evolution of the XM Online player in gadget form.

It may not seem like much, but we’ve added some fun things into it (I should mention this code is originally developed by ShadowHawkShadowWorks and has been labeled GNU).

Now, if you don’t have an XM online account, no problem, you can always sign up for a quick free trial Here. Otherwise, if you have an account, please have a go at this gadget, you won’t be disappointed.

Features:

  • Listen To XM Online Radio From Your Sidebar!
  • Full Player Controls: Stop, Play, Volume, Channel Flipper
  • Improved Channel List
  • Favorite Stations System
  • Sleek Interface
  • Information Saved Locally
  • Advanced Amazon Search For Artist, MP3s, And Album
  • Improved Stability
  • Settings Reset Options

Note: We have noticed that the Ajax calls to the XM Player have occasionally caused a warning from Windows Firewall for the Sidebar. If you get that prompt, just click “Allow” or “Unblock” and you should be fine. We’re still looking into the issue to see if we can fix it.

I downloaded this today and have an account with XM. Now I have music but it says that it is getting info. I can’t use any of the buttons except the fav button and after I click that nothing. I’ve reset everything back to default and tried again but same problem. This is a very handy tool that I would like to use any help would be great.

  2. admin Says:

Hmm… That’s interesting. Try adding the gadget to the sidebar a couple of times without uninstalling it, see if that helps (sometimes the ajax can get stuck). Other than that, It’s possible there could be an issue with the persistant settings, but I think this sounds more like and ajax issue.

Try the above and see if that works, if not, let me know. :)

  3. James Says:

FYI i think ur victim to the XM timeout u get on the web stream. If i hit stop and leave it for a while and try to click play it downloads channel info but no sound. I reset settings and it fixes it. Other than that this is JUST what i needed. Pehaps add a logout button so u can fix this with quick logoff logon.

Thanks a lot! This gadget is wonderful. I am running vista 64, the only error I get is when I am in sidebar mode and click on options it gives me a debugging error, the program is not effected however. Would I would really really like to to be able to listen to the XM radio “high bandwidth” stream, right now this gadget only receives the “low bandwidth” stream which sounds kind of flat.

  5. admin Says:

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah, we’re looking into the timeout problems. Next patch will probably update the placement of a few things in the code so as to make things a bit easier. That and we’ll play with the re-login of the gadget to see if we can get that working.

Ernie, as far as I know, that is the high bandwidth connection at least as far as the code goes. Might be because of the playback, but the connection speed is labeled as “High”, then again, maybe I’m missing something…

  6. Jeremy Says:

The only thing that I would like to see in this is the option to see what is playing on the channel. Other then that I really like this gadget. Thanks!

  7. Mike Says:

Great gadget … one thing that would be nice in a future version is the ability to bring up the channel list and show what’s playing on the various channels. Otherwise, it’s awesome!

  8. dave Says:

wondering is anyone is having the same problem as I. It connects but unable to hear audio. I a log onto another desktop on my computer (not admin) it works fine.

    any ideas?

  9. Brian Says:

it took a couple times installing (uninstalling/reinstalling, not add/remove from Sidebar), but I finally have a reason for Sidebar in the first place! thanks…this is GREAT!

  10. realwx Says:

Any chance for a Sirius one? I was going to make it but never had the time to make it. Me & another project administrator have been maintaining the Sirius Konfabulator Widget.

  11. me_rubin Says:

I’m for a Sirius one as well!

  12. Ernie Says:

Yes, I get the same thing where the sound just cuts out but I still see the info on the screen. Also sometimes when I click on a favorite, nothing happens. I am on vista 64 btw. The Amazon thing is really cool and works great!

  13. Joseph Says:

Gadget works great except for one problem. After the PC is resumed from “Hibernation” mode, the gadget doesn’t stream. It must be closed and reopened. Kind of annoying considering a lot of people don’t leave their PCs on 24/7.

  14. admin Says:

Yeah, we’re still working on the re-login portion of the gadget. When that gets perfected, it should help a ton in situations like coming out of hibernate.

  15. Blake Moyer Says:

I cant do anything with the gadget. All it keeps saying is that it is “Getting Info…” I get no sound and i cant do anything!

  16. admin Says:

Blake, try re-installing the gadget or re-adding it to the sidebar a couple of times and see if that helps. Also try the reset buttons in the Settings panel. It’s a wierd problem that people are getting on occasion, just keep playing with it and it should hopefully work after a while.

We are looking into this issue to see if we can stabalize it a bit better.

  17. Howard Says:

Just installed this gadget…can’t get it to work. Try login and nothing. What can I look into to get this fixed…would like to be able to listen to XM Online…

    Thanks – Howard

  18. Brian Says:

having used this for a couple days I have to mirror one frustration – while I don’t hibernate my computer, if I stop streaming (by pressing stop) I cannot restart it without either uninstalling/reinstalling or simply resetting (usually the former.) Just an FYI – otherwise I love this.

  19. admin Says:

Yeah, we’ve been noticing a trend in the issues people are having. We’re looking into it, I think it’s mainly the re-login function not working properly.

  20. rz1a Says:

getting the same problem as a previous poster. it loads up and then says getting info but i cant use any of the buttons to stop it or pull up channels

let me know if you have a fix for this

  21. admin Says:

Will do. It’s on top of the list of things to do for the next patch. :)

  22. mia1 Says:

Would luv to use this gadget but when i log in i see the play button etc., but with i try to click on a station it clicks me back to the login… what’s up?

  23. admin Says:

    Mia,

that’s really wierd. I haven’t heard of that particular issue before.
If you could, please try out a few of the things listed here:
    http://www.buildagadget.com/Blog/archives/52

See if any of those help. If not, let me know.

  24. julius Says:

I had the same problem with the buttons not working and the info not showing up. Installed and reinstalled a few times. Logged in, then went to settings (which gave me an error @ line 200 or something like that btw) and the pressed reset settings. (Got another error @ line 168.) But the I logged in again and it’s working now!

  25. julius Says:

I noticed the favorites can’t be sorted. It would be cool if they could be. Also, I don’t see any channel names in the channel list. Maybe because I’m on 120 DPI? Would help a lot if it could be seen though.

  26. trey Says:

is this the newest version or is there a newer one i can get?

  27. The Staff Says:

Trey, the newest version is 1.7, but those links up there should take you to the latest version of the gadget.

  28. Humbe Says:

    great gadget!

  29. Jennie Says:

I just installed the gadget and I keep getting “invalid username / password” I know they are correct because I just logged into XM’s website using them. My username is an email address because we’ve had XM for a long time now, could this be the problem? I’ve tried deleting it and reinstalling it and no luck so far.

  30. Stan Says:

It keeps saying windows sidebar has stopped working. Then it tells me that XM radio caused it and to remove it.

  31. Great Wind Says:

Outstanding Gadget. I found that with the occasional “Close/Add” routine it works wonderfully. Doesn’t time out either. Dig it.

  32. Humbe Says:

Asome gadget! the only reason I still have vista in this computer!

  33. Ram Says:

HI – is there a way to change channels within the favorites? I have created a favorites list and would like to go from one station to the other, but evertime I click on the “=” or “-” button it changes the channel itself chronologically.
    thx

  34. Tony Says:

So now that the Sirius/XM Merger is complete and has been for about a month, is there a way to use the XM gadget since I have a Sirius subscription? Will there be a Sirius gadget?

  35. The Staff Says:

Tony, No idea about that. We would say that if you can log into XM’s website and use their online player then yes. If not, then no. Sirius gadget is still on the fence, it depends on what Sirius does in the next few months vs. what they are doing right now.

  36. Marc Wagner Says:

The XM gadget has stopped working on my systems – at home and at work.

I can still go to the website and use my on-line account so that isn’t it. I have tried everything.

    What’s us?

  37. The Staff Says:

Marc, try restarting the sidebar application itself. Otherwise, can you elaborate on the problems the gadgets are having?

  38. David Says:

It always says Server Lost. I am listening to BPM and the stream is fine. Sounds great, however no song info. Any ideas? Thank you.

  39. Gary Says:

my xm gadget stopped working, tryed to reset, redownload and still nothing…now all i can do is get to the login and type in my login and click the login button and nothing happens, any ideas?

  40. The Staff Says:

Gary, try restarting the Windows Sidebar program itself and try the gadget again. We’re working on fixing this issue for the next incarnation of the gadget.

  41. Jon Says:

Anyone know why when I try to login (first time) the login screen pops up and then quickly disappears? I’m not able to enter login information….
By the way, running X64 Windows 7

  42. The Staff Says:

Jon, we’re going to look into this issue as soon as we get a copy of Windows 7 beta up and running on a machine.

  43. Tom Ray Says:

Sorry…it is XMRadio Gadget V1.9 I am running
