XM Online Radio 1.1

Posted in Gadgets, XM Online Radio

We’re releasing a new version of the XM gadget.  Version 1.1 will hopefully take care of a few problems that people are having, but at this time, I can’t guarantee it.  Because the machine that I’m building and testing on doesn’t get these problems for some reason, I’m relying on all of you (yes, you), to help me out by telling me if this thing works out okay or if I need to keep digging to try and find more potential issues.

Version 1.1 Features:

  1. Improved Stability (Hopefully).
  2. Improved Re-Login Function.
  3. Improved Help Panel In Settings.

It’s not a huge patch, but with any luck it’ll cure at least a few of the current issues, and with a lot of luck, it’ll get everything working the right way.

No sound. Sound up 100% and still nothing. Continues to get runtime error. I get the runtime error even after installing ver 1.1.

  2. Justin Says:

Every time I try to change the channel or stop/play, it says “Check Connection”. I have to restore defaults and reenter user info every time.

  3. karenb Says:

this gadget would be great if the feed worked without needing to restart. it would be nice if you did an update that made the stream work and eliminated all of the warnings.

  4. Susan Carlin Says:

Oops… didn’t know I needed to subscribe to use your gadget. Could you please tell me how to properly uninstall it? Thanks so much!

  5. Tim Satryan Says:

Is it possible to have the channel list accurately reflect the current Holiday channel offerings?

  6. Mike Gray Says:

Well so far Ver 1.1 seems to work fine for me. I did have problems with the stream restarting with Ver 1.1. Great job.

  7. Brad Carlson Says:

I noticed no one has listed the exact problem but here is what I get when I re-run version 1.1 or click on the settings tab:

    A runtime Error has occurred.
    Do you wisht to Debug?

    Line: 204
    Error: Object expected

    Yes or no.

If I click yes the program crashes, if I say no and to go settings it freezes.

    I run Windows Vista Basic

Hope this help to solve the problems, love the idea, just wish it didn’t crash so often.

  8. Prime Says:

    Thanks for the awesome gadget!

No problems here (I don’t think) after several hours of use. All buttons work, and the display works properly. Only thing is – and I’m not sure if this is proper or not – is that the channel list is always blank. It looks like there’s supposed to be metadata on the list, but none is there.

  9. Tom McMullen Says:

    Does it work with Firefox?

  10. Kris Says:

It worked once. Now, I click on channel list and they come up but I cannot click anything (no effect). I’ve done everything…reset…delete, re-install etc. but it just won’t work. The thing shows up…lets me log in but I cannot select any channels. Arrrrggg…and I really love this gadget!

  11. Chris Says:

I downloaded the gadget and it will not accept my user name or password. but if i go to xm directly and log in there it works fine with the same info. will this only work if sign up a new account for the user to get a referal or should it be working?

  12. admin Says:

Interesting. We are working through the problems as we go along. I wish we could move through stuff faster, but there are other projects going on simultaneously. Best shot right now is to try everything in the support and then delete the persistent settings file if that doesn’t work. I think I might have outlined that somewhere around here in the comments.

I have a lot of detailed feedback, so I’m tracing down some of the issues to their sources and it’s just wading through the backend of the gadget to get it more stable.

And yes, if you can log into the XM online player, it should work in the gadget. Check out the support post on the blog for more information on things to try out. I know it’s frustrating waiting for this to get patched, but we’re trying to get through everything as fast, but as stable as we can.

    Thanks for your patience.

I am also having a problem with no sound

Referring to another post, does this work with firefox as the default browser? any suggestions are greatly appreciated

  14. admin Says:

This should work with fireFox being the default browser. However, it’s IE that wil render and control the gadget at any time. The sidebar uses IE to do both it’s rendering and security, so it’s possible that there’s a wayward setting in IE that could be causing the issue.

Otherwise, keep fiddling around with it.

  15. John Barolo Says:

Great gadget, I am running Vista :( and it doesn’t seem to save the Favorites??? Any help in this area, am I doing something wrong?

  16. DownTheShore Says:

I was having a problem with no station playing and when I tried to do an update in the settings sectionI was getting an error message that the internet connection had failed. Since I was able to get to this website by clicking the link to it IN the gadget, that obviously was wrong. I uninstalled the gadget then downloaded and reinstalled it, and it seems to be working now.

Thanks for updating the Christmas channel list. I absolutely love this gadget. I had been using XModuleSB to access XM previously, but I find your gadget to be simpler and easier to use.

  17. DownTheShore Says:

Addendum: Problem happened again. Just FYI, the message that comes up when clicking the “Check for gadget updates” button is “Connection Problem – Unable To Update Because Of An Internal Error. Double Check Your Internet Connection And Try Again”.

Closing the gadget and restarting it doesn’t seem to get the stations to play. Uninstalling it and reinstalling it does, however.

  18. Manchine Says:

Using version 1.1 Update function doesn’t work for me. Gives the following error.

    CONNECTION PROBLEM
Unable To Update Because Of An Internal Error.
Double Check Your Internet Connection And Try Again.

  19. admin Says:

Yeah, we’re looking into that. Don’t worry though, we’ll announce the next version on here and I’m not certain, but that script might work by then… We’ll see.

  20. MrGenius1 Says:

no sound with either version. there are also error asking to be debugged. i would love to try and use this mod if i can get it to work. hope to get some help. thanks

  21. Jack Says:

Works great! Thanks for my new favorite gadget.

  22. Shaun Bailey Says:

    Hey,

First off, props for making such a great gadget! This one works lightyears ahead of the other XM gadgets! There is only one feature that it lacks that would make it complete. It needs a way of changing between the “low” & “high” bandwidth settings. I have my PC hooked up to a pretty nice sound system and you can definitely tell the difference between the two. Please let me know if you can help!!

    Thanks again!!

  23. Insidian Says:

Hello, I am having these problems that have already been posted here. I just wanted to verify them as actually being a problem, not just a random thing with a select few people.

From Chris – “I downloaded the gadget and it will not accept my user name or password. but if i go to xm directly and log in there it works fine with the same info. will this only work if sign up a new account for the user to get a referal or should it be working?”

From Manchine – “Using version 1.1 Update function doesn’t work for me. Gives the following error.

    CONNECTION PROBLEM
Unable To Update Because Of An Internal Error.
Double Check Your Internet Connection And Try Again.”

Thanks for making a cool gadget, I hope to be able to use it soon.

  24. cuttshott Says:

The first time I installed the XMRadio gadget, it worked. Since then, it has never worked again. I’ve downloaded it again and tried the reset function but it still doesn’t work! I have an account with XM and it works from the website but the gadget would be great if only it worked properly.

  25. cuttshott Says:

I don’t think this gadget installs properly or has some sort of permissions problem. I noticed it never creates a folder in the gadgets folder in “Program Files->Windows Sidebar->Gadgets” if that’s any help.

  26. Dave Says:

    Thanks for all your work, first of all. Works for me and i enjoy using it. Two problems;

    1. When I click the link for the channel list, the box opens and the channel numbers appear, but the station names do not. If I pick a channel, it plays fine, and the station info and song info do appear on the face of the Gadget.

    2. When I save a favorites list, shut down and, restart, all faves are gone.

    If it helps, system info;

Samsung Q1 Ultra (wierd, I know)
    Vista Home Preimum
    Upgraded tp 2 Gigs

    Thanks again

  27. admin Says:

We’re currently working on a patch for the gadget. Working through the back end coding with a fine-tooth comb to try and get it up to snuff. When it’s ready, we’ll post it up, We are noting the incoming issues, though please be patient as some of these issues are due to the backend code of the gadget, while some issues might be due to security settings and misc. computer settings.

  28. LisaT Says:

could you do this patch soon? you have such a good thing going but you are losing my interest with the amount of time it is taking between upgrades.

  29. Lloyd Says:

just installed and I like the way it works – a few things to recap what others may be seeing:

    1. if I stop the playing – it won’t restart – it says “Ceck Connection” and I have to do a reset and relog in

    2. it says the name of the channel but has never displayed the song info – it always says “Getting Info”

    hope these bugs get fixed

    thanks

  30. fae Says:

Yeah, the radio doesn’t work. I have a brand new Vista laptop, the sound works 100%, but I can’t hear the radio (*If it’s playing). I can’t find help, and the login was quite difficult to begin with, so I’m just going to get rid of it.

  31. The Staff Says:

Fae, try restarting the sidebar application itself. Not sure why the login was difficult to begin with, can you let us know what you had trouble with so that we can take a look and see what we can do about improving it in the future? Thanks. :)
