XM Online Radio 1.5

Posted in Development, Gadget Stuff, News & Updates

Hey everyone, wanted to get this out as soon as possible. Version 1.5 is more of a set of quick bug fixes, but it’s important enough to get out to everyone.

Fixes

  • Fixed the numeric password deal.
    - Turns out it was the sidebar’s fault, but we have a workaround.
  • Hopefully fixed the runtime error.
    - Try / Catch statements everywhere, so that should help avoid null values.
  • Added a mute link to the YouTube view page.
    - In case you needed it, it’s there (and already live).

Aside from that, we continue to crank away at this gadget’s stability, so feedback is appreciated.

  2. sally Says:

my issues seem to have resolved with 1.5. thanks

  3. Chad Says:

Thank you for all your hard work. This is by far the best out there and I for one truly appreciate it.

  4. David Says:

This is a great gadget that I use almost daily, however I have a feature request to relieve a common annoyance. It seriously needs a Refresh or Reconnect button. My laptop takes awhile to establish its wireless connection at bootup, usually longer than the sidebar takes to initialize. The XM gadget seems to timeout and then refuses to connect or show a channel list — I have to remove it from the sidebar and re-add it to make it connect. A simple Refresh or Reconnect button would be ideal.

  5. Debello Says:

Was having issues with previous version but loved the gadget enough to stick around. This version seemed to fix all my issues, can now love this thing even more

  6. Urban Says:

You can combine the play and stop buttons into one. When stopped, it should be a play button. While playing, it should be a stop button. It could save on space/clutter.

This continues to be my favorite gadget. It’s very well designed and aesthetically pleasing already.

  7. Alicia Says:

HELP!!! I upgraded from the 1.2, & I can’t do anything now. I’ve taken it off, & re-added, I’ve uninstalled about 5 times. I’ve even tried to get 1.2 back, but all I get is 1.5. All I have is the box with XM on it. No listing, no control buttons, NOTHING!!!! I’m very frustrated right now & wish I’d kept the old one that I had no problems with. I’ve also tried to drag the box down, thinking it minimized itself, but nothing. I don’t like this product. If you could PLEASE help me, I’d appreciate it. Thanks.

  8. The Staff Says:

    Okay, first thing: Don’t Panic.

It sounds like there was a glitch. Gadgets down minimize perse, so if re-adding it isn’t working, have you tried to reboot your computer? Have you tried closing the sidebar and bringing it back up again? If push comes to shove, check out the support info for instructions on deleting the persistent settings file.

Let us know if any of those work or if you are in the same predicament. :)

  9. Tim L. Says:

I am still getting a naggin error on two of my computers with 1.5 :

    Line:863 (though Line may change)
Error: ‘document.getElementById(…)’ is null or not an object.

I have two Vista Ultimate machines, both do this with 1.5

  10. ChuckM Says:

This is GREAT! I love not having to sign-on to XM-Radio everytime I want to listen.

I had some problems after installing version 1.5, so I rebooted. I am still having this problem.

Everytime I click the button to display channels, I get a “Runtime Error” at Line: 863. Text reads: “Error: ‘document.getElembyByID(…)’ is null or not an object”.

    Otherwise, great.

  11. The Staff Says:

Sorry about that. We couldn’t track the problem down before because it’s being caused by favorites in channels were there is occasional blank data.

Just did a quick update though, download it from this site and let us know if you get the same problems. :)

  12. Tim L. Says:

    Thank you - Line:863 error fixed !!!

Great app, keep up the good work, and thank you for your quick response to fix the runtime error.

  13. ChuckM Says:

That seems to have fixed the problem…great response…THANKS!

  14. Mark Says:

having some issues with v1.5, it logs in as normal with my login saved, but when I click to see the channel list, it opens but I cannot move or slide the bar with the mouse, its frozen. Its the same whether I have the channel preview selected or unselected. I tried the persistent settings idea, no luck. uninstalled and reinstalled, same thing, I also rebooted the computer, same issue. I have Windows Vista Home Premium running on a Toshiba Satellite A215 with 2gb ram

    help!

  15. Mark Says:

little feedback on my problem above, dragged the gadget out of the sidebar onto the desktop and then put it back on the sidebar, and it seems to work ok now…. weird!

  16. The Staff Says:

That is weird. Glad to see it working now though! :)

  17. Heath Says:

I have an issue with the plugin not playing if I have set my DAW to use ASIO drivers. Seems the plugin wants to mimic whatever settings I have in my DAW. If I change Sonar to WDM drivers…it plays.

  18. Heath Says:

    nevermind…it was a login issue…i was convinced it was a driver issue…sorry

  19. KenGraham Says:

A couple of new problem has arisen.

    1. On the first viewing of the channels both the channels and favorites are blank no matter how long I wait. I must close the channel flyout to see favorites and channels.
    2. After I have chosen a favorite channel, I can not choose another favorite. I receive another runtime error: Line:0 Error: Permission Denied

  20. KenGraham Says:

Also the main console does not update the “Now Playing” song. It just says “Getting info ….” and a previous song’s name.

  21. The Staff Says:

@Heath, Good to hear that the issue was resolved. :)

@KenGraham, We replied on the gallery boards just a minute ago, but we’ll reiterate it here.

Your issue sounds like the gadget somehow tripped the sidebar security. It’s rare, and we’re not sure why it happens, but the easiest way to deal with it is to either reboot the machine or close the sidebar and re-open it. Give either one of those a try and let us know if it helps.

  22. KenGraham Says:

I first tried closing the gadget > no go.
Then I closed the Sidebar (used the task manager to accomplish) and restarted the Sidebar and now all is behaving well.

There may be the possibility that this happened because I’m using a laptop where I manually initiate my network connection (cellular card) after the system is booted. Just a possibility.

  23. JessB Says:

I love this gadget! It has one flaw though. When you change channels with the +/- it shows only the channel name, not the channel number. What about making the little Channel + and Channel -boxes include the channel number when pressed? Even better, you should enable it to “speed flip” through channels when held down. For example, if you press once it will show the next channel number but if you hold it down it will start flipping through channels at 2 per second until you let go!

  24. The Staff Says:

JessB, good suggestion! We’ll consider it for future updates. :)

  25. Eric Says:

Won’t load. Tried to remove it and add it again. It turns into a small box and doesn’t load.

  26. The Staff Says:

Eric, that definetely sounds odd. Might be the intial XML not loading.

Please check out the support page Here. Try the persistent settings fix and while your in that directory look for an XMRadioDebug.txt file, if there is one there, send us the contents and we might be able to help further.

  27. Eric Says:

Ok, it works now. Which is odd. So if there is another problem i will check it out. Thank you for your help.

  28. Jeff Says:

Fantastic little gadget. Great work, guys. And support to boot! Love my XM and use this all the time now that my (THIRD!) Deplhi receiver has crapped out.

  29. John Says:

When i installed version 1.5 on my computer it worked fine but then after a couple of days it tried to debug itself and i get this messege

    —————————
    Error
    —————————
    A Runtime Error has occurred.
    Do you wish to Debug?

    Line: 493
    Error: Object required
    —————————
    Yes No
    —————————

i don’t know what to do. if i hit yes it says that there is no debugger for this operation and if i hit no then nothing happens

  30. John Says:

Tis is weird. Ok this is what i did, i restored the gadget and deleted my favorites list and it gave me a different debugging message but then it said login and i did then it worked. So i have no idea what was or still is wrong with it but it works fine now.

  31. JessB Says:

Well, John, since you gave them the line, I’ll bet they will figure it out. Usually errors like that are the result of code that can be improved.

Any luck on implementing my suggestion yet, Admin?

  32. The Staff Says:

John, That’s definetely very odd. Glad to hear that it is working for you now. We’ll keep an eye out for that line in the future and see how it’s causing potential issues.

JessB, We’re still considering it and how it could be implemented using JavaScript. Currently we’re working on some other projects, so it might not be out for a bit.

  33. Michael Says:

With 1.5 I’m getting an object required exception on Line 493:

    System.Gadget.document.getElementById(”UIButtonPlus”).style.display = “none”;

  34. The Staff Says:

That’s an interesting issue. We’ll take a look at the line and see what we can do. Seems odd that that line would be the culprit as that element is always there.

But yeah, we’ll take a peek and see if there’s not something else causing issues.

  35. Josh Says:

I just found a fix to the no sound issue. Xm online radio was not working in Windows media player 11 as well and the fix I found there fixed that issue as weel as the issue with no sound in the xm gadet. Copied from microsoft’s site(works for any streaming issue from what I’ve read):

found a fix to the sirius streaming issue. It may fix other’s issues as well:

    http://www.vistax64.com/vista-general/68398-windowsn-media-player-always-ready.html

Rename/delete the “Windows Media” folder located under
    %userprofile%\appdata\local\microsoft

  36. ChuckM Says:

Still loving this gadget on my Vista machine.

Is there any chance of coming out with a version that will run on XP? TIA.

  37. The Staff Says:

ChuckM, odds are not too likely that we’ll do that (sidebar on XP), but it’s possible that we might do one for Yahoo sometime in the future, so it could happen.

  38. Jeremy Says:

I love this gadget. Works perfect for me.

2 feature requests that (I think) would be handy:

Favourite Artist or Songs. It would be cool to be able to have a list of my favourite songs and artists that the XM Radio Gadget would notify me no matter what channel it’s playing on.

A sleep timer (Or even a settable default timeout). I often turn on the XM radio and forget to turn it off. Just to save bandwidth, it would be nice to be able to set it for 2 hours and not worry about it. I also go to sleep every night with it playing. (Sent to my Alarm Clock with an FM transmitter) With the Online XM from XMRadio.com, it times out after a while.

    Thanks for an awesome gadget!

  39. The Staff Says:

Hey everyone, after looking at line 493 and trying to figure out why it would cause an error, we’re still not quite sure why it would cause that particular error. It’s the favorite checking function, so maybe try resetting the persistent settings and see if you get the same thing. Also, if you report this error again, please let us know exactly what you did before it happened.

    @Jeremy: Thanks! We’ll consider your suggestions. :)

  40. The Staff Says:

Just did a quick update of the file on here. If you are having the Line 493 error, please download the latest version from this website and let us know if you are still having the issue.

  41. Chuck Says:

I have installed and re-installed the gadget, am logged in, but the music controls are always grayed out. What gives?

  42. The Staff Says:

Have you selected a channel? If so, what does it do when you select a channel?

  43. Mike Says:

    Hi!!

I just downloaded the gadget yesterday, and I cannot log in. I can log in fine to xmradio.com and access my account, but with the gadget in my Vista sidebar it says invalid username/password.

I have double checked and triple checked my credentials, and also uninstalled and reinstalled the gadget both by closing it out and reopening it, and uninstalling it and reinstalling it.

I am running Vista Business Edition with SP1. Maybe it’s SP1 causing the problem?

    Thanks!!! :)

  44. Sean Says:

I updated my password on the XM radio website… but the widget is not prompting me that the current one it has saved is incorrect. How do I reset my credentials that the widget stores?

  45. The Staff Says:

Mike, It’s possible, we haven’t tested it with SP1 yet, so maybe it’s a security issue. Seems very odd though. When this has happened before it was due to a wierd password error, maybe try changing the password on your XM account to something simple really quick and give that a try?

Sean, under Settings->Reset there’s a couple of buttons to reset that data, just click the first one and it should reset the main settings.

  46. Mike Says:

    Hi guys

I’ve found my problem. My coworker pointed out to me that the XMRadio.com website and the online listening credentials are 2 different username/password combos. One for XMRadio.com account mgmt, and one for listening online that has to be set up separately (why they make it separate is beyond me). So this was me being a n00b and not knowing. I signed up for listening online and now it works fine with that username/password. Maybe this is a good entry for an FAQ? I know I was totally befuddled.

Sorry for the confusion. This is a great gadget by the way, I’ve been listening from it for a few hours now. :)

    Thanks for the help!!!

  47. The Staff Says:

Mike, glad to see your problem has been resolved. Also, good suggestion for the support, we’ve added the section with a link tot eh online player for people to make sure their accounts are active.

  48. Dennis Says:

Hello, I love the XM gadget.

May I ask if the flyout to show Artist, Music & so on at different sites has any special tweaks or requirements to run properly? You Tube videos it shows from the search, & shows the link to the You Tube videos (which open & play fine in IE), but if clicking “watch” video, there is a pause as if about to start the stream, then it fails with an x showing where the video would be if it worked properly. (This is a Vista U-64 machine.)

Thanks anyway, if not. I’m happy with the gadget even without the flyouts & so on, just if they’re there, it would be nice if they worked properly.

    (-:

  49. The Staff Says:

Dennis, it sounds like you need to have flash installed for the x64 side of your system. For some reason, Windows x64 editions have both 32 and 64 bit apps. Not quite sure which version of IE is powering the sidebar on the 64 bit edition, so make sure you have flash installed and working for the both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Internet Explorer.

  50. Dennis Says:

Thanks, I didn’t think about that, but it’s likely the issue.

  51. Tim Says:

This is the best gadget ever, but I didn’t know it because I didn’t even know about the pop out window until a few days after using it. You guys should really make all of the words in the main window linked to the pop out and maybe add something indicating it too. I’ll bet that a lot of your users have no clue about the full features! Other than that, great job and thank you.

  52. Jesse Scott Says:

A couple of days ago my XM gadget just up and quit playing sound (seems like an issue for a few others also). Upgrade to 1.5 no help. I ended up completely removing it and reinstall. Also killed the settings XML. Reinstalled 1.5 and it p[lays now. I noticed firewall confirmed to let sidebar act like a server. Could be somehow related to something getting messed up there. Anyway, up and running again.

  53. Dawn Says:

This morning my xm wouldn’t play, so I downloaded the new version gadget. It shows everything and both my sounds are turned up but when I hit play nothing happens other than I can see what’s on the radio. Can you help?

  54. Dawn Says:

Problem resolved itself about 2 hours later. But thanks for giving us the option for online help.

  55. Michele Says:

It keeps telling me that my information is invalid, when I know for a fact that it’s not.

I have re-checked it many times. Any ideas?

  56. The Staff Says:

Michele, Double-check your account on XMRadio.com and see if there is a radio ID associated with your account. Some of the recent upgrades have caused the online side of some people’s accounts to get reset.

  57. Jo-Ann Miller Says:

Thanks, it works great….I appreciate it!!!!!
