XM Online Radio 1.7 BETA

Posted in Development, Gadget Stuff

We’re trying something out for the next release of the gadget.  That’s right, a public beta.  If you’re a regular reader or just randomly here, you get a sneak peak at the next version of the gadget.

We are looking for feedback on features, bugs, comments, anything at all really.  We’re especially interested in migration to the new gadget as it can cause some issues in older installs.  Also, you may want to back your favorites up before installing (just in case).

Download XM Online Radio 1.7 BETA Gadget (Beta has ended)

One last note:  Since the gadget file name is different, you’ll see a second icon in your gadget panel.  Just click “Show Details” on the bottom left and look for the 1.7 version.

We’ll run down a very quick list of changes to this version:

  • Code completely re-written for stability and speed
  • InfoSave checkbox removed
  • XM logo clickable, creates links flyout
  • Logout link now exists In links flyout
  • Channel flyout redesigned, tighter look and feel
  • Live channel search added to channel flyout
  • Images optimized
  • Player themes! (5 including the default)
  • Settings panel modified a bit
  • Persistent settings fix instructions inside settings now
  • channel flipping more stable now

That’s the short list, but quite a few changes were made under the hood, so those are mostly the additions.

Have fun and let us know if anything goes wrong!  :)

Note: Just made a quick update to the beta gadget.  Links are renamed, Stream changing should be smoother, flyout close on search auto-un-mutes the gadget. (04/03/2008)

Note 2:  Made a couple bug fixes.  Also added a link to the links flyout called “Update Channel List”, hopefully this will help out people looking for channel updates without re-adding the gadget. (04/04/2008)

Note 3: More changes: Channels flyout reconfigured with the collapse and expand buttons re-expanded and on top of the channel search, the channel search bar has had some cosmetic changes made to it and the overall flyout is 25px longer. Also tweaked the start buttons. (04/05/2008)

Note 4: Almost there: Channel search re-colored and a search button added for re-searching after section change and for more confortable feel for some users. Red theme added to the player themes. (04/06/2008)

    Works great so far!!!

    Thanks!

    Love it! No problems so far and I listen to it anytime my computer is on. I have had it since the first. I think it is ready for it to be published as a non-beta. I do request for there to be more themes. Red would be a good theme to match my sidebar colors. Other than that, PUT IT ON PUBLIC RELEASE. Start making the 1.8 for even more add-ons. I love the lyrics add-on! Thanks for this gadget! Now when I turn my computer on and have an internet connection, it’s right there waiting for me to start listening to it. It took out the hassle of having the xmradio.com and login then click the player. Thank You very much!

    Great gadget… Not a single issue. Thanks and keep up the great work!

    Cannot save favorites. The button is “greyed out”. Was able to do it a couple of versions ago, but no longer. Even without the “Favorites” function though, the gadget is great.

  5. The Staff Says:

    Mark, is the button just not pressing down or is it pressed down completely? If you re-add the gadget to the sidebar, does the error keep happening?

  6. Frank Says:

    I have Vista and had the XM Online Radio for several months and love it. However, today I started my computer and got no sound. I cleared the persistent files with no luck. Then checked for updates and installed the updated 1.7. Now I try to login and nothing happens when I click the login button. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    This next a continuation of my last post…

    I removed XM Online from my sidebar, restarted my computer, and reinstalled XM 1.7. I attempted to login again. After entering my credentials and clicking Login, I waited a couple of minutes but this time I got a red “connection error”…???

    I can’t get the XMRadio to work

  9. The Staff Says:

    Fran, can you give us some more details on the problem your having?

  10. Michael Says:

    I love the gadget, the only problem is that I went from vista to Windows 7, and now when you try to login the flyout will just close instantly. I looked around at the “FlyoutLogin.html” and discovered that if you change this code:

    “document.getElementById(”Login-User”).value = Login-User;
    document.getElementById(”Login-Pass”).value = Login-Pass;”

    to this:

    document.getElementById(”Login-User”).value = ;
    document.getElementById(”Login-Pass”).value = ;

    the flyout will appear now, but of course the login will not work, because in the flyout when you press login, it has no value, so can anyone help me out. I love the gadget, and would love to continue to use it on Windows 7. Thanks.
